About GPT for Work
GPT for Work is an AI agent for Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, built by Talarian. Users interact with GPT for Work through a chat panel inside their spreadsheet: they type what they need in plain language, and the agent executes directly in their file. It handles everyday spreadsheet tasks — writing and fixing formulas, formatting, creating charts and pivot tables, cleaning and reorganizing data, building models and forecasts — and can also apply AI to every row individually at scale for tasks like translation, categorization, content generation, web research, and data enrichment. GPT for Work has over 55,000 paid customers and 7 million installations, and is used by teams at organizations including BCG, Wurth, ASOS, Sky, Velux, Aucto, Klook, Vertbaudet, CIL, Rogers, and Tingstad.
How it works
GPT for Work adds a chat panel to your spreadsheet. You type what you want in plain language — "create a pivot table by region and month," "translate column A to French," "clean up this data" — and the agent reads your spreadsheet, plans the steps, and executes them. There is no configuration UI to learn and no prompt engineering required. It works in Excel (Windows, macOS, and web) and Google Sheets.
Background story
In early 2023, we at Talarian saw an opportunity to couple the new generation of large language models with the most widely used productivity interface on earth: the spreadsheet. We set out to build the best AI integration for Google Sheets and Docs, drawing on years of experience building Google Workspace products. That became GPT for Sheets and Docs. Try it out!
GPT for Sheets and Docs grew so quickly that Microsoft reached out and recommended we build the same product for Excel and Word. We launched GPT for Excel Word in mid-2023. Try it out!
Since then, the product has evolved significantly. What started as spreadsheet functions for prompting AI from cells grew into dedicated bulk-processing tools, then into a full AI agent that can handle virtually any spreadsheet task from a single chat interface. Today, GPT for Work is as useful for writing a formula or formatting a table as it is for translating 10,000 product descriptions.
What makes GPT for Work different
- Works inside your spreadsheet. No uploading files to a chatbot and downloading the result. The agent executes directly in your Excel file or Google Sheet.
- Everyday tasks and scale in one product. Handle daily work — formulas, charts, formatting, analysis — or process thousands of rows with AI. Same chat, no switching tools. No other product does both.
- Excel and Google Sheets. One agent, both platforms. Most alternatives only work in one.
- Choice of AI providers. GPT for Work supports OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Mistral, DeepSeek, xAI, and local models via Ollama. Users can bring their own API key or use managed access.
- Enterprise-grade security. ISO 27001 certified, GDPR compliant, pass-through architecture for bring-your-own-key users, SSO via Microsoft Entra ID and Google OIDC, admin controls with centralized billing and usage reporting.
- Pay only when you use it. No per-seat subscription. Credits are pooled across your team. See pricing.
