Regenerate GPT formula results

Re-execute GPT formulas to update results in selected cells, fix errors, or generate new results accross an entire sheet.

Prerequisites
  • You have opened a spreadsheet containing GPT formulas.
  • You have opened the GPT for Sheets and Docs add-on by selecting Extensions > GPT for Sheets and Docs > Open.

Regenerate results in selected cells

  1. In the GPT for Sheets sidebar, click Settings.

  2. Check that the GPT formulas aren't paused and that caching is disabled for your spreadsheet.

  3. Select cells manually or click on active to select all cells in the current sheet that contain active GPT formulas. To adjust the selection, hold down the CTRL/CMD key while clicking on cells to deselect them.

    Warning

    Always select the full range of results for functions like GPT_LIST to prevent data loss.

  4. Choose In selection in the Regenerate dropdown.

  5. (Optional) Pause the formulas to prevent recalculations in this sheet and the rest of the document.

GPT formula results within the selected cells are regenerated.

Regenerate results in cells on errors

After troubleshooting GPT for Sheets errors, you can re-execute all GPT formulas in cells tagged with #ERROR! or #VALUE!.

  1. Check that the GPT formulas aren't paused for your spreadsheet.

    the top menu bar must show a Pause button
  2. Click Errors only in the Regenerate dropdown.

  3. (Optional) Pause the formulas to prevent recalculations in this sheet and the rest of the document.

All GPT formula results that were on error in the current sheet are regenerated. If some errors persist, let us know by submitting a support request.

Regenerate results for all GPT formulas in the current sheet

  1. Check that the GPT formulas aren't paused and that caching is disabled for your spreadsheet.

  2. Click In sheet in the Regenerate dropdown.

  3. (Optional) Pause the formulas to prevent recalculations in this sheet and the rest of the document.

All GPT formula results in the current sheet are regenerated.

Limitations

Working with selections larger than 10,000 cells may negatively impact performance. For best results, keep the number of GPT formulas on one sheet under 10,000.
