Search the web with GPT for Word
Search the web directly in GPT for Word using web search models. These models use fresh web search data, which allows you to generate up-to-date responses about companies, current events, facts, and more, directly in your document.

You can use the following web search models in GPT for Word:

Search the web
Expand the model switcher and select a web search model (indicated by the 🌐 icon).
infoIf you select a Gemini model, make sure web search is enabled for Gemini models.
(Optional) Click the settings icon and adjust the context size:
This controls the balance between cost and result quality:
Low: Minimal search context, optimized for cost savings
Medium: Balanced search for cost vs. depth
High: Uses the most search context for richer results
The search cost depends on the selected context size (see Web search models).
Type your search prompt in the chat. For example:
What are the latest trends in AI technology?
Click Send. The model generates a response using up-to-date web search data.
Once you're satisfied with the response, you can:
Insert the response at your cursor position
Replace the selected text with the response
Copy the response to your clipboard

Enable web search for Gemini models
Web search is an optional feature for Google Gemini models. By default, the feature is disabled.
To enable web search for Gemini models:
Expand the model switcher and select any Gemini model.
Click the Settings icon.
Click the Web search toggle to enable web search.
Click Save.
Web search is now enabled for all Gemini models in the current document.
